We hope you've seen our show, but seriously have you ever considered becoming a part of it? We would love to have YOU become a part of Bloomington's HOTTEST teen news television show made by for and about us the TEENS. Teens write, edit, shoot and appear on this show PLUS you don't need any previous experience to get involved because we'll teach you everything you need to know. TVT meets or shoots on Tuesdays after school from 3:00pm to 5:00pm We produce a new show every other week. The group decides on storys and then we divide the tasks. The great thing about this is that most stories don't happen on Tuesdays from 3-5. I understand you're busy....so am I. If you can't make the meetings we've got plenty going on other days and times also.
Take a chance, get involved. Contact us at 952-681-5900 or by e-mail to tvt@bectv.org. We'll get in contact and you can see if this is right for you.

BLOOMINGTON, MN - Surveys among Bloomington students have displayed that youth do not feel valued by adults and are not given useful roles in the community. Likewise, young people in Bloomington are spending little time developing their skills in the arts. TVT has been an answer to these concerns, and could be the answer for other communities facing similar situations as well.
TVT covers youth doing positive activities in the community and has brought attention to controversial topics such as pop in schools, sex education, drug addiction, and whether or not Bloomington really loves its kids.
TVT has produced over 40 episodes over the past year and a half of its existence. Each show is planned, shot, edited, anchored and managed by youth volunteers from both Kennedy and Jefferson High Schools. Adult mentors provide facilitation, resources and community knowledge in the production process.
The success of the show has captured the attention of America’s Promise—The Alliance for Youth, which is a national movement dedicated to building the character and competence of our nation’s youth. It was featured in an article highlighting great ideas that communities can provide to youth. As well, TVT was presented in a workshop to both adults and young people at the 2004 National Youth Summit in Cleveland, Ohio.
This national awareness has led the TVT production team to begin thinking larger. An idea has been proposed to begin a template for the show, which in turn will be franchised to other communities across the country.
“It will put a local face on a national engine,” says Tom Ringdal, director of BEC-TV. “In essence, the youth of participating communities will provide the local talent and stories, and we [TVT] will provide the support and the resources to ensure a quality television show where teens will have a voice in their community.”
The benefit of TVT on the Bloomington community has been significant. TVT provides a forum where youth can inform the community of positive youth activities, promoting and inspiring volunteerism in the community, presenting young talent around the community, and creating competent youth residents. As well, TVT also instills interpersonal communication, team building skills, a sense of duty, responsibility, pride and belonging, accomplishment, not to mention technical skills to the youth that participate. Involvement in TVT also looks great on college applications and resumes.
According to Reed Erickson, the TVT youth anchor, “Even if we were the only ones doing the show and nobody else was watching it, there are at least ten of us who have had a difference made in our lives.”
TVT airs everyday at 12:30 am, 6:30 am, 12:30 pm and 6:30 pm on BEC-TV channel 15.
